My legacy

A tribute, prepared by yourself

Some find peace in shaping what will be shared about them later. A favourite place, a story, a photo. Ready for the moment others will look for it.

How it works

  1. You create it. Just like a normal tribute: a title, a place, a story, photos. For yourself, in advance.
  2. It stays private. Not visible on the map, not searchable, only you can see it from your account.
  3. You appoint up to three trusted people. Family, friends, your notary. They receive a mail with a link they only use when the time comes.
  4. Activating this tribute can be planned by you, or by a trusted contact. When activated there's a 48-hour calm window during which you (or TributeMap) can still block the action. After that the tribute goes public, following the usual moderation.

A few things to know

  • It's free. Setting it up costs nothing. Upgrading to Premium later is always possible, with the same €19 one-time fee as a regular tribute.
  • You can always change it, until activated. Edit as often as you like, or delete it if you change your mind.
  • Trusted contacts cannot edit. They can only activate it: what you have prepared is what gets placed, nothing more, nothing less.
  • Don't trust anyone enough? You can leave the contacts list empty and only activate the tribute yourself when you feel the moment is right. You're always in control.

Privacy matters extra here

A legacy tribute of someone still alive is sensitive. That's why no one can access it through the site, it's not findable via Google, and we share it with no one without your activation. Only when you set it live yourself (or a trusted contact does so) does it become public.
