General

What is TributeMap?: A calm platform to remember people, places and moments at the spot where they took place. A tribute can be about someone you lost, but also about a bench by a canal, a forest path, or a pet. Anything that belongs somewhere can live here.
Is it free?: Yes, basic use is free. You can create a tribute, receive memories, and connect to other tributes (up to 3 for the free version) at no cost. Premium features like extra photos, retention guarantee and QR codes are optional.
Who can add a tribute?: Anyone, even without an account. You fill out the wizard, confirm your email, and we read it before publishing. Want to edit later? Log in with that same email.

How long until my tribute is online?: Usually within a day. We read every tribute with care, no algorithms. If something's unclear, we email you.
Can I choose whether the exact location is shown?: Yes. When creating, you choose 'exact' or 'approximate'. With approximate, the pin is shifted by about 500m, so the visible spot is never the precise real location.
Can I edit my tribute later?: For free tributes: email us and we'll update it. For Premium tributes (and up) you can edit directly from your account, manage photos, and connect to other tributes.

Who can react?: Anyone can leave a memory on a public tribute. We ask for your email for a quick verification, after which the tribute's owner reviews your reply before it's published.
Why can't I include an email or phone number in my reply?: For your safety. Spam bots harvest email addresses from public text, and personal phone numbers in a memorial setting are a privacy risk. Want to reach someone? Email them directly outside TributeMap.
Can I reply to someone else's memory?: Yes. Under each memory you'll see a 'Reply' button. Your reply appears indented below the original, goes through the same verification, and is briefly reviewed by the tribute's owner.
Can I indicate my relation to the tribute?: Yes, optional. In the reply form you can freely fill in what your relation was: granddaughter, neighbor, former colleague, great-great-grandchild. It appears in light text next to your name to give readers context.

What are connected tributes?: Tributes don't have to stand alone. A person tribute can connect to places that mattered to them: where born, where lived, where passed away. Or partners to each other. Or victims of an event to that event. On every detail page you see a 'Connected tributes' block with clickable cards.
How do I connect my tribute to another?: Open your tribute from your account, scroll to 'Connected tributes' and click '+ Connect'. Search the other tribute by title, choose a relation type ('lived here', 'partners', etc.) and send. The other tribute's owner gets an email to approve.
Can someone connect my tribute without my permission?: No. Every connection between tributes of different owners requires mutual approval. You receive an email with the details and can approve or decline. The connection only becomes visible on both pages after approval.
What if I own both tributes?: No email flow needed: the connection is created instantly. Logically, mutual approval between yourself and yourself adds nothing.
How many connections can I make?: With a free tribute you can have up to 3 active connections, enough to map a life across places (born, lived, passed away). With a Premium tribute (or higher) the number is unlimited, useful for genealogists or families with many ancestors.
Can I remove a connection later?: Yes, anytime. Either owner can remove the connection unilaterally, no approval needed from the other side.

Is Premium per tribute or per account?: Per tribute. One payment equals one upgraded tribute. For people who manage multiple tributes, a TributeMap+ yearly plan is coming later.
What are the tiers?: Premium €29 (5-year retention, 4 photos, video up to 90s), Memoriam €99 (50 years, 8 photos, video up to 5 min), Permanent €249 (lifetime, 15 photos, video up to 10 min). All three give self-edit, vanity URL, QR code and memorial book PDF. Memoriam and Permanent get moderation priority.
I want to place multiple tributes for family tree research, is there a package?: Yes, three packages. Family (5 Premium tributes for €99, directly orderable) fits for your immediate circle. Family tree (100 Memoriam tributes for €499) and Genealogical research (1000 Permanent tributes for €1,999) are on request for serious researchers, with personal intake and CSV import. Email info@tributemap.com for the two larger packages. For the Genealogical package we accept a limited number of customers per quarter to give each project the attention it deserves.
Which payment methods are available?: Through Ko-fi you can pay with iDEAL, credit card, debit card or PayPal. Prefer bank transfer? Email us and we'll arrange it.
Can I upgrade later?: Always. Tributes that have existed for months or years can still be upgraded; all features become available right away.

Are my data shared with third parties?: No. No ads, no marketing trackers, no selling of data. We only use technical services needed to run the site (database, email, map tiles), all within the EU.
What happens to my data if I become inactive?: Nothing disappears casually. After long inactivity (six years without any response) we send a final reminder before archiving. Always recoverable on request. Details on the privacy page.
How safely is my data stored?: We run multiple independent backup layers, daily for the short term and monthly for the long term. In case of an incident a full restore is possible within hours. We deliberately keep specific providers, schedules and locations out of public communication to limit the attack surface.
